Exciting Day! Hello dear readers! We sat in one place too long and started growing moss into our roots and felt suffocated, or something like that. Time to move on; our house has wheels!
We chose to workcamp for a few months, and it was great! Go back and check out our posts here, here, here and here to see some of the great things we got up to while in New Mexico!
Now it is time to break free of the chains and clumps of sand, cactus and lava rock holding us down, and get out there!
A little snag, duh, duh, duuuuuhhhhh.
Not so exciting a day. Let me back up a little. We rolled down to the camphost site as it was vacant for a few days and the Park Manager at Valley of Fires asked us to do so.
We were ready for our move 2 days later. The trailer was packed up, disconnected and ready to be closed prior to rolling out. We woke up the next morning, closed up and I went to turn on the truck to get it under the trailer. The Truck. Would. Not. Turn. On.
Minor panic, I do not own jumper cables (quickly remedied later that evening). Otherwise I would just hook up to the trailer’s 12V and jump the truck. Ash went and found the new camphost who gave our truck some juice and we were ready to go!!!
Exciting Day begins! Head West young man!
We rolled out and banged a west. This took us directly into the mountains south of Albuquerque, the day after a major snowstorm and the day of a minor snowstorm. We thought it was awesome!
A little late “snow fun”
We pulled over in a rest area and all piled out (except Cas, our dog, she was napping in her kennel). It was almost like being in a winter wonderland. A) We had not been around trees in a very, very long time, and B) The snow was thick and wet and clung to every single branch.
Our exciting day was turning out to be more fun that we had bargained for! We had a great time, and it was a short hop over the mountains. Then a quick drive across some high plains on the backside of the mountains!
Our “Exciting Day” continues!
It is difficult to see, but we were at roughly 8,000 feet for the pictures below. There was high cloud cover and then a lower cloud semi ‘resting’ on the field. Don’t start with me about fog, I know the difference! If you do not believe me, tell me what you see?
Finally, our exciting day ends as it begins, with a minor problem!
Our path out of the mountains took us across the desert of Arizona, and the roads left much to be desired. Whereas the snow proved no challenge to drive through, the rough road was doing its best to make it an exciting day indeed.
When we rolled into our campsite, about 80 miles later, the inside of the trailer looked like it had been rolled down a hill. The interior of the fridge pulled an impossibility probability and neatly stack items (from differing shelves) in orderly lines along the right side of the fridge leaving the left completely empty. I missed getting epic shots of this, as Ash straighten it up, while I tried to figure out how the heck this happened!?
All in all, not a terrible shakedown cruise!
We are excited for our next adventures! Keep tuned and check out where we go next. The answer may just leave you petrified!
