Our family spent a week in Maumelle State Park camping and found it extremely beautiful. It was calm, quiet and relaxing. Our small family and dogs learned some more about simplifying our lives and adjusting to seeking Serenity.
“Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify, simplify! I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand; instead of a million count half a dozen, and keep your accounts on your thumb-nail.”
Henry David Thoreau
Arrival at the beautiful park
There is a checkpoint at the entrance to the park. Prior to arriving, all campsites must be pre-reserved. Then you will need to walk into the checkpoint and get your site assignment. Next, our site was given to us. Then we were escorted to the site by one of the Park Rangers.
Our site was not directly on the water, but was beautiful and serene. We had a large green area directly in front canopy side of the trailer. There was adequate spacing between sites for a semblance of privacy. Trees surrounded us.
Beautiful landscape, fauna and flora
Cottonwood trees surrounded the camping areas. The seed puffs floated down at times almost as thick as a light snow. It was easy to mistake the seed puffs for down, as there were several flocks of geese waddling around the campground.
We also had a Red-headed Woodpecker and several Blue Jays in the area around us. The Woodpecker was elusive and I had to zoom in from pretty far away to get his picture.
There were some pretty vines with some flowers. Lots of trees were everywhere and there was a well-manicured lawn throughout the park.
Security and nightfall
We had some great evenings. The days went by peacefully. Park Rangers made periodic security rounds throughout the day and into the evening. We did notice some gnats and mosquitoes that would come out about an hour before sunset. Once the sun went down, they disappeared.
We had a great fire with the sounds of frogs and crackling fire. We followed that up with s’mores and then went to bed relaxed.
Overall
All in all, the park was beautiful and calm. We got to see a lot of great birds and peaceful days. It was relaxing and I’d rate it 8 out of 10 Cottonwood Trees, compared to the 6 out of 10 ticks at Little Rock Air Force Base!
